![]() Doyle said that because video games lead to a greater investment of time and money, gamers are more informed about reviews than are fans of film or music they want to know "whether that hotly anticipated title is going to deliver". ![]() ![]() Stuart wrote: "The metascore phenomenon, namely Metacritic and GameRankings, have become an enormously important element of online games journalism over the past few years". Games Editor Marc Doyle was interviewed by Keith Stuart of The Guardian to "get a look behind the metascoring process". Certain publications are given more significance "because of their stature". In August 2010, the website's appearance was revamped reaction from users was overwhelmingly negative. He added that the review process is not taken as seriously when unconnected magazines and websites provide reviews in isolation. ![]() "By giving consumers, and web users specifically, early information on the objective quality of a game, not only are they more educated about their choices, but it forces publishers to demand more from their developers, license owners to demand more from their licensees, and eventually, hopefully, the games get better". Speaking of video games, he said: "A site like ours helps people cut through.unobjective promotional language". Doyle, 36, is now a senior product manager at CNET but he also acts as games editor of Metacritic". CNET and Metacritic are now owned by the CBS Corporation. Rotten Tomatoes was already compiling movie reviews, but Doyle, Roberts and Dietz saw an opportunity to cover a broader range of media. Date of experience is within the last 2 months, I believe.Metacritic was launched in January 2001 by Marc Doyle, his sister Julie Doyle Roberts, and a classmate from the University of Southern California law school, Jason Dietz, after two years of developing the site. They've completely ignored my last few update requests for example. There's also been no update in around 5 weeks regarding being unable to post reviews on the site. It's been around 2 months since the initial log-in issues and there's been no update regarding this. Their 3rd-party customer service, called "red ventures", I believe, also haven't been remotely helpful. A completely neutral Internet Explorer, for example, doesn't even function. This has happened on multiple browsers, including most of the popular ones, regardless of whether add-ons, VPNs etc are disabled. Yes, every attempt to post a review returns a "403 Forbidden" error. What makes this incredibly hilarious, is after creating an account - I did so with another email domain not mentioned above - it's completely impossible to post reviews on the site. I've tried Protonmail, for example, and it's completely hopeless attempting to sign up with that, as it generates an error that states something like "email not valid." Intriguingly, it's possible to sign-up with other email domains, such as Gmail and Outlook, although that's perhaps not surprising given the propensity towards more exploitive and invasive technology the web seems to favour. Unbelievably, it's impossible to create accounts using certain email domains. Metacritic is perhaps one of the worst websites I've ever used - believe me that is saying something because I've used Facebook, Twitter and similarly awful and exploitive terrors. Bemusingly Cannot Post Reviews and Cannot Create Account
